The rigorous quality control of cosmetic packaging

Feb 24, 2020

The quality control of cosmetic packaging is very rigorous. Creams, oils or makeup are applied to the skin with the risk of creating allergies, irritations or other conditions. Therefore, it is essential to rely on a packaging manufacturer that brings us the peace of mind we need, with all the guarantees.

Cosmetic packaging controls

Purpose. To guarantee an optimum quality in the cosmetic container it is essential to define the type of container to be used, as well as what it will be used for. For example, a bottle is not the same as a sprayer, syringe or other applicators.

Composition. There are cosmetic products that require specific packaging. The manufacturer will give the best advice to us on the solutions. Consult with IP Triana in any case of doubt.

Tightness. If it is a lotion, oil or body moisturizer, we must analyze the tightness, the interaction of the product itself and its resistance in case of a fall.

The resistance of the cosmetic container itself. How the container protects the product in case of falls or heavy blows.

Chemical resistance of the container. How the product reacts inside the package, for example, if it is exposed to very high or very low temperatures.

In IP Triana we ensure:

  • That the container is properly sealed and that it can be unsealed easily.
  • Ergonomic designs that facilitate the use of the product.
  • The tightness of the containers.
  • That our solutions provide added value to the market and to the final customer.

Legislation and other parameters to consider when choosing packaging

Packaging of cosmetic products must also take into account, each countries legislation, the product data, and the specifications indicated by the supplier.

Cosmetic containers must also pass the test filter to determine how the product interacts with the packaging. These tests allow you to check the chemical compatibility, permeability, mass transfer through the container – or gases – among others.

Permeability allows product preservation. Many times, what interferes with the quality of the product is water vapor and oxygen that affect the stability of the product.

Equally important are sensory tests. Migration from one container structure to another can affect the quality. Improper control can lead to allergies. Or the skin where the cream or cosmetic is applied is exposed to oligomers, monomers, additives, and other toxic substances.

In IP Triana we have the ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 certificates that guarantee the transparency of our processes. We operate according to the mandatory and regulatory standards for the manufacture of packaging following the correct manufacturing standards.

We also have a cleanroom that has an ISO 7 certification. The room has its own decontamination system using ultrafiltration of the air and environmental microbiological control is carried out periodically. All personnel operating in it use coif, footwear, and clothing free of emission of particles.
